First the required thanks! Thanks to everyone whom I've got information from on all the forums that I lurk on. Mercbits1 for sure and laca06 and others as well. If any of the files I have posted belong to you and you want them removed, please let me know and I will remove them and provide links to the appropriate location.
Next the disclaimer: This process may completely wipe out your working Xentry installation, it may also make your computer inoperative, impregnate your dog, set the moon on fire or worse case melt the polar ice caps. You are completely on your own if someting goes wrong!!! You accept all responsibilities for attempting this!!
Now on to the update process!! READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS ENTIRE PROCESS BEFORE STARTING, IF YOU GET HALF WAY THROUGH AND DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!!
Disable all and any Anti-Virus programs running!!!
You will need 3 different versions of commonlic.dll. First is a 116kb file, second is a 142kb file, last is a 272kb file.
Generate and save an Xentry licence key with a start date of 20100101 and end date of 20130101.
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LicDir\lic-key2.dat, right click and select "Read Only", click "apply" and OK
Create a .txt file on your desktop and name it licence.txt. Open it and save your Xentry key to it just in case you need it later.
Make sure your DVD drive is drive letter "G". If not right click "My Computer" and select "manage". Select Disk managaement, and change the drive letters to make your DVD "G"
Copy the 116kb commonlic.dll to C:\Windows\Zak\Starutils\ and make it read only.
Copy the 272kb commonlic.dll to F:\Programme\Xentry\bin\dlls\ and make it read only.
Copy the 142kb commonlic.dll to your Desktop.
Copy the 142kb commonlic.dll to C:\Windows\System32\ (not sure this is needed, but it couldn't hurt for good luck!)
With the DVD in drive "G" go to G:\Stardiag\Xentry_Frame\ and run the setup.exe (this will install just the base Xentry program but will not update DAS or SDNC which is needed for full function)
Do not reboot when finished. Time to recheck commonlic.dll's.
Copy the 272kb commonlic.dll to F:\Programme\Xentry\bin\dlls\ and make it read only.
Copy the 116kb commonlic.dll to C:\Windows\Zak\Starutils\ and make it read only.
Check your licence key for Xentry is still good by pressing "SAVE" if you get an OK, you're good to procede.
Go to your DVD drive "G" and select SDSwitch.exe from the root (this will start the complete install procedure).
Select your language and skip the view/print dialog box by pressing "NO".
Now the AppID 252 error will show up. STOP!!! DO NOT PRESS ANY BUTTONS!!!
Recheck all your commonlic.dll's!!!
Copy the 116kb commonlic.dll to C:\Windows\Zak\Starutils\ and make it read only if it changed.
Copy the 272kb commonlic.dll to F:\Programme\Xentry\bin\dlls\ and make it read only if it changed or dissapeared.
Now you have to find the commonlic.dll that was installed into the C:\Documents and Settings\star\local settings\temp\{random letters and numbers}\{more random letters and numbers}\
Just click through all the folders and subfolders until you find the offending commonlic.dll file. I think it was a 272kb file. (the commonlic.dll in the DBADminTemp fold is NOT it. Don't worry about that one!!)
Replace the commonlic.dll with the 142kb commonlic.dll you saved to your desktop. Copy it over so you can keep the copy on your desktop for now. (you can right click the 142kb commonlic.dll file on your desktop and select "copy" then "paste" it into the folder with the bad 272kb commonlic.dll and overwrite it.)
Now go back to your Xentry installation and click "OK". It will give you another warning about proceding, but select procede anyway by clicking "YES", then continue on with normal installation by selecting "NEXT" until the install starts.
YOU MUST WATCH THE INSTALL FOR THE ENTIRE PROCESS SO YOU CAN STOP THE SYMANTIC ANTI VIRUS (SAV10) INSTALLATION OR THE ENTIRE PROCESS WILL FAIL!!!!
When the installing SAV10 diaglog box appears, be ready to spring into action or it will start up and start a scan immediatly and delete your commonlic.dll files!!
If SAV10 (Symantic Anti Virus) installs and runs, the icon will show up in the lower right "system tray". Right click it and select open. Then select "file" "unload service" (not sure exactly what its labled, but it does say "unload").
If you gives you a scan in process error, wait for the scan dialog box to appear then select "cancel".
When you have stopped SAV10 from running, the icon in the system tray will dissapear.
Now select "Start" then "run" then type in "MSCONFIG" no quotes.
Select the "Services" tab at the top and check the box with "hide all Microsoft services". Untick all SAV and Symantec services. Now select the "startup" tab and untick CCAPP. Click "apply" and "OK" but do NOT restart (the Xentry install is still going on in the backround). Click "Exit WITHOUT restart".
Now keep an eye on your commonlic.dll in C:\Windows\zak\Starutils\ to make sure it doesn't change. If it does, overwrite it with the 116kb commonlic.dll and check your Xentry key again. The process ends by checking for a valid key, so if the Anti Virus program deletes your commonlic.dll the installation will fail.
When the installation finishes the system will need to be rebooted, but make sure your Xentry key is good before rebooting and also make sure all the SAV10 anti virus start up options are disabled again in MSCONFIG.
Now reboot and copy over the SDflash folder from the DVD to F:\Programme\Das\SDflash\ if you need to do control unit updating without the DVD.
Before running Xentry for the first time, make sure and run the 03_2011 Xentry layout fix or you will get a licence key error.
I also recommend downloading the free version of Revo Uninstaller and uninstalling Symantec anti virus and Live Update to make sure it doesn't mess with your commonlic.dll's.
Good luck, and anyone who can help improve on this guide please let me know.
I have included a text document with this guide in it to aid in updating if you want it printed out or saved.
