I want to share my experience with the Renesas RH850 R7F701064 processor, which is used in a McLaren Artura airbag module (RCM - Restraint Control Module). Despite multiple attempts, I have been unable to access the MCU, and so far, neither manufacturers nor forums have provided a working solution.
The Problem:
After contacting Renesas directly, they told me that they will not provide support and that I should contact McLaren instead. However, McLaren does not offer any programming or repair solutions for these modules. Their only procedure is to replace the entire RCM with a new unit, which is then programmed using their proprietary software.
This creates a huge problem for independent programmers and workshops:
• It forces car dealers to buy expensive new modules, even when the existing one could be repaired.
• Independent repairers are completely locked out, since the MCU is fully secured and there is no official way to access it.
• It strengthens a monopoly in the automotive industry, where only OEMs and their authorized dealers can perform repairs.
Legal & Ethical Issues – Renesas is Contributing to a Monopoly
The way Renesas and McLaren restrict access to this MCU may violate several laws and regulations, including:
• European Union: Regulation (EU) 2018/858 → Guarantees access to vehicle data for independent repairers.
• Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation (EU 461/2010) → Prevents anti-competitive restrictions on repair information.
• USA: Massachusetts Right to Repair Act → Requires manufacturers to provide diagnostic and repair data to independent technicians.
• Germany: Act Against Restraints of Competition (GWB) → Prohibits unfair monopolization of repair services.
What Needs to Change?
I believe that Renesas should provide independent professionals with a secure but accessible method to work with RH850 processors, instead of completely locking them out.
There should be:
1. An official unlocking procedure for legal repairs.
2. A secure but fair way for independent repairers to access the MCU without violating safety or security measures.
3. More transparency in how vehicle manufacturers implement security on these processors.
Calling the Community for Help
If anyone has successfully read, unlocked, or worked with the Renesas RH850 (R7F701064) MCU, please share your experience. I am especially looking for:
• Devices or software that can access the RH850 despite security restrictions.
• Alternative methods (Boot Mode, Debug Interfaces, SPI, UART) to extract data.
• Any known Security Bytes or IDCODEs that could help unlock the chip.
This situation affects not only me but the entire independent repair community. If we do not push back against these unfair restrictions, more and more vehicle manufacturers will continue to monopolize repairs, forcing car dealers to pay outrageous prices for unnecessary replacements.

My dealer says the file can't write again with new mods, because the tuner has inserted a password. is that possible lock ECU to write? because it was readed with no issues.
i try to remove EGR DPF ADBLUE but found some problems
i reset with VCDS DPF AND ADBLUE but after drive sometime the car store dtc on AC sistem dosification of reduction agent and the car haves lot of white smoke when starts
EGR conector is unplugged DPF sensors are unplugged and ADBLUE pump is unplugged

I have got Talismann 2016. Received it not working with two key cards. The remote control and HF is not working. I can not make an ignition on. It looks the cards are not recognised by IMMO. The car was staying a few weeks outside with opened windows. It is wet inside.
I checked all fuses. With renolink I can connect with UCH. I can see IMMO params. There is no autorisation.
